Six Times People Being Too High On Themselves Backfired.
By Edtrader Oct. 5th, 2022
There have been times in life when someone thinks a little too highly of themselves. And say something to the effect of 'so what I'm greater than you'. Just to have those words come back to bite them in the butt.

#6. GASP vs customer.
Hailing from Australia, GASP was one of those high-end retail stores. With the latest fashions and trends. However, their own arrogance caused their downfall. Keara O'Neil walked into their store looking for some new clothes. When she asked an employee about having what she wanted in her size. Instead of helping, he teased her about her taste. He then commented on how they don't have clothes for someone as fat as her. As you would expect, she walked out of the store. She later sent a letter of complaint to the store's manager. She received a less-than-apologetic response letter. Telling her just to sidestep their store.
The response letter she posted online, and down came tons of flack on the store. She did finally get her apology. The owner of the space they were leasing stepped in. This incident, along with an unpaid bill of nearly $17,000 to Australian Air Express, showed that they were wrong in thinking they could get away from anything.
This store went bye-bye!

#5. Hilary Clinton vs. Hilary Clinton.
Hilary Clinton was high on her horse joking how republicans couldn't find anything she has done as a positive. She says to herself that she has list of good things. So she spends the money to send all of the main players of the GOP signed copies of her book 'Hard Choices'. Senator Paul Rand's spokesmen Sergio Gor said that Paul enjoys reading fiction. And a few days later the book with a note written by Paul went on Ebay. Along with a signed copy of Paul's book. On the site the description had the book's subject as fantasy! The note mentioned the controversy over the Benghazi event.
So, you had a book signed by both Hilary and Paul that any person could own. Hilary's book didn't really sell all that well. It sold enough to cover only half of the $14 million dollar advance that Hilary was paid by the publishers. So, jokes came from other receivers that she had so many left in back stock that she had to give them away.

#4. Sting vs. Andy Summers.
Sting is a self-proclaim perfectionist. One who truly does what's best for himself no matter what. While in The Police guitarist Andy Summers wrote and performed this wonderful instrumental track called Behind My Camel. But while deciding what tracks to include on their new album 1982's Zenyatta Mondatta, Sting didn't want this on there. He didn't like the song so much that he even didn't play on it. So, it was all left to Andy. After strong arguments it was clear that Sting wasn't going to get his way. So, he stole the master tapes from the recording and buried them in the garden out back. Not telling anybody where he did it. Finally, the tapes were found, and the song went on the album! Do you know what Andy has from it? GRAMMY! The highest award in the music industry is the Grammy. Behind My Camel was awarded the Grammy for the Best Rock Instrumental.

#3. Hulk Hogan vs. Every Wrestling Promoter.
Let's look at the biggest wrestling star of all time, Hulk Hogan. Every wrestling promoter has thought they were the highest force in the business. However, Hulk has turned around and shown them that they were wrong. Hulk worked for Vince McMahon Sr. and Jr. in 1982. Hulk received a deal from Sylvester Stallone to play Thunder Lips in Rocky III. The Rocky movie series was as hot as an entity can get. It was a good movie for Hulk and a good move to promote wrestling. The McMahons saw that they were at a point where neither they nor Hulk needed the movie. Hulk disagreed, so Vince Sr. said if you do the movie, you'll never work here again. Thinking that he would bow down and shine their boots. Hulk took on the Rocky role! Once filming was done, Hulk went to work for the AWA and Verne Gagne. Hulk proved that he was a star and became the biggest draw that promotion ever had. The shirt-ripping, superhero, cupping his hand to his ear was all developed in the AWA. Taking on Bobby Heenan's main guy Nick Bockwinkal. With the high-energy interviews with Mean Gene on the mic. But once again, the promoter thought they had it over Hulk. Verne started to sell Hulk Hogan shirts without giving him a cut. Hulk raised his voice about it, but Verne just told him no. So Hulk went back to work for Vince Jr. And Hulk showed Verne this time around. The AWA tanked as Hogan came over, and then all of the AWA's top talent followed. Now 1993 rolls around as Vince Jr. and Hulk have a spat. Hulk was told that he was too old, and it was time for him to step aside. Hulk turns around and joins WCW. Showing off to Vince Jr. now that he was wrong. WCW grew to its best while the WWF struggled. In 2000, WCW officials messed around and told Hulk the same thing. That he was old, and it was time for him to move on. Younger guys took over TV, and WCW fell. To be sold just a year later to the WWF/E. And who does Vince McMahon hire? Hulk Hogan. While the younger WCW guys are still looking for jobs.

#2 Out of spite building.
The Sam Kee Company purchased a wealthy slot of real estate in Vancouver, BC. Owner Chang Toy's business was importing and exporting goods. Wanting to expand their hugely successful company from more than just in Chinatown. A deal was struck, and they forked over a heavy penny. Unfortunately, after the sale, city officials widened Pender Street. Cutting out 24 feet of the width of their slot. Rendering the space too small for any kind of commercial property. Sam Kee didn't take this lying down. Instead, they proved the city wrong. By building the world's shallowest commercial building. Recognized by Ripley's Believe It Or Not. The basic steel structure has the building at four feet and eleven inches wide. The second floor has these pop-out awnings. Giving them an additional two feet and eight inches.

#1. Eric Bischoff vs. TV remotes.
On January 3rd, 1998, WCW had, for two years, ruled over the WWF in TV ratings. Like they could do no wrong as everything just worked. The moment that single-handedly changed the tide, making the WCW fall back to second, was Eric Bischoff's bad decision. He decided the announcers would announce what the RAW programming would be. As NITRO was live while RAW was taped. That Mankind would be winning the WWF world title. Eric was trying to up WCW by downplaying the boring programming of the WWF. Wrestling fans picked up their TV remotes and changed the channel in a mass exodus. At that moment, in a flash, the viewership rating for WCW dropped. And WWF gained all of those estimated 600,000 viewers. The WCW would never regain the ratings it lost that night. And in TV, more ratings means more they can charge advertisers for TV time. So, it cost the company not only money, but has been pointed out as the beginning of what closed that company.
