Here are some of the dumbest criminals who didn't make the cops even earn their pay.

Det. Homer Simpson.
If the dad from The Simpsons was a detective, the following case would be his top story.
In 2002, a Krispy Kreme truck was parked with the back open and the engine running. The driver carried a shipment of delicious treats inside a store. Two people decided to steal the truck and took off with no care in the world.
Police received reports of a vehicle driving dangerously. Once on the case, the police discovered the case cracker. Or more like the case doughnut. A 15-mile-long trail of Krispy Kremes led straight to the suspects. They found the truck with the door open and left it that way!

Paper trails.
Paper trials are often used to find suspects. But the following doesn't quite fit into that. But then again, it does. In 2009, Hickory, North Carolina, saw Captain's Galley seafood restaurant robbed of its cash registers. But this was one of the quickest manhunts ever. The cops simply followed the trail of the last register's receipt tape. A perfect white line took them straight to Donny Guy's apartment.
Once in, they saw he was trying to pop the cash out. Surveillance footage shows that the guy was having a problem getting the registers out. As they were still plugged in. He struggles, and the spool drops. He goes, and the machine continues to roll out paper.

It's May of 2016, when Officer Ellen Stewart drives by Miller’s convenience store in Lesbon, Maine. She was called about a suspicious vehicle. Where she stumbles upon two guys handcuffed. After further investigation, the handcuffs were one of many items stolen in a spree of car robberies a week prior. The handcuffs they stole, they were playing with them, and they got cuffed together. If only every officer arrived on scene and the criminals were all handcuffed and ready to go! Yes, the handcuffs they stole were accidentally cuffed themselves right before an officer drove by!

A British bank was short 7 million pounds in 2005. Graham Price had been taking money from investors since 2001. But a simple audit led to checking Price's safety box. Inside a box was an IOU that read, he 'borrowed' the sum that was missing. Facing charges, he admitted to them all. But also confessed to over 250 other scams.

The warden of a Texas prison is at his desk one day when a letter reaches him. It's the mother of a prisoner, and she is complaining. That her son's cellphone wasn't having good reception. Everyone knows that cellphones in prison are not allowed. In 2010, President Obama signed into law that a phone in prison is no longer just a prison regulation. But a nation-wide felony charge. Which could earn you, and the outside person who helped you smuggle in a phone, a year in prison.
Knows your noses.
Tonga Fifita, aka Haku, is described as a real tough guy. If wrestling was 100% a sport, Haku would be the real worlds wrestling champion. Well, he has really tough teeth as well. On March 3rd, 1989, in Baltimore, Tonga and his friends went to a hotel bar. As the night went on, the bartender asked him if they were with that 'fake' wrestling. Then he started to tell Tonga that he wasn't all that tough.
The final insult comes as the bartender pushes Tongo. He says, "I'll show ya" and grabs the guy. And he proceeded to bite on the guy's nose. I don't mean he left some teeth marks or drew blood. He bit this guy's nose off O-F-F.
He then sat back down and finished his meal. The police came and found Tonga still at his table. Asked him if he was the one who bit the guy. He said yes; his nose is right over there on the floor.

On Monterey Street in Madera, police were driving towards a car that matched a stolen report. As they neared, an unknown man ran off. The police gave chase, but he was able to get away. However, a tip came that the person had run to his home at a nearby apartment building. The police arrived at the apartment, but the person had escaped from a rear window. The police searched the area, but they couldn't believe their eyes.
Later, the cops found that he used a spray paint can. In order to paint himself black. To camouflage himself in the shadows of the night. It might have worked except for one thing. He was standing right next to a bright white wall!
